Max and Nina are cousins who like to solve mysteries. In two different cases,
they help people find out who has been making trouble in their town. In “The
Case of the Defaced Sidewalk,” Nina quickly figures out which one of three girls
ruined part of a new sidewalk. She does this by working out which of the girls
could not have jumped in the wet cement. In “The Case of the Disappearing
Signs,” Nina and Max help their mother discover who has been taking down realestate
signs from in front of a house. They go to where the signs were and
question people who might want the signs gone. They figure out who took the
signs when they notice someone doing something unusual for that time of year.
